I finally watched this week's episode of Studio 60--finally, a good one! At last we see some of the allegedly funny comedy show, and parts of it were actually funny and moving and entertaining. And the midlife romance that is flowering is really charming and, well, so very wonderful for those of us who find ourselves past the first blush of first romance. The men involved are, of course, a lot more midlife-ish than the women, who seem to be 30-something. But, still, we're not talking teenage love. Granted, most of the characters are imaginary Boomers--that is, what many of us imagine we still look like (but don't).
Speaking of teen love, I also saw my TiVo of Friday Night Lights. This show started out great--wonderful, moving drama and good writing--only to fall into an odd abyss of teen soap opera about Lila sleeping with her paralyzed boyfriend's best friend. This week, though, the show focused a bit more on grown-up drama, which I prefer. Especially wonderful is watching the midlife parents try to restrain their lovely teenage daughter. Also, the wife in this show is near-saintly, for putting up with her life as the wife of a high school football coach in Texas. That alone should be valid grounds for divorce.
