I'm still watching Brothers and Sisters, but mostly out of duty, not enjoyment. After all, it's one of the
most Boomer-friendly shows on television.
But, still. . . They have got to cut out some of that music. Pronto! During last week's episode, "History Repeating," I was on High Treacle-y Music Alert about five times. You know, when the strings swell, and the percussion builds, and you feel as if the music is slamming you in both ears to Pay Attention and Feel Really Really Sad. Ugh.
Also, there was a Cardboard Coffee Cup Scene in this episode. Every time I see pseudo-Starbucks cups on a television episode, it's completely obvious that there's nothing in the cup. It's empty, and the characters are pretending to drink out of it. Somebody send a memo to Television Directors of America please, and ask them to fill the fake cups with fake hot liquid, so the actors can at least look as if they are drinking out of a full cup. Or, maybe, I'm being way too irritable?
Finally, I'd like to point out that at the end of this mediocre, treacle-ish episode, Sally Field--a Boomer born in 1946 -- hops up on her late husband's illegitimate daughter's bed (too complicated to explain) and pulls her knees to her chest. Then, she sits there like a 13-year-old gossiping with a girlfriend. Go Sally!
Next week, I'm on national television... in Chicago... not Oprah. Any guesses? It's live, on NBC. Daytime. And I'll be able to photograph yet another Green Room.
